RESEARCH GRANTS IN BLACK STUDIES FOR FACULTY AND GRADUATE STUDENTS
(2018 calendar year)
The UC Consortium for Black Studies in California invites applications for research grants for ladder-rank faculty and graduate students working in the field of Black Studies for calendar year 2018. Faculty and graduate students from any campus in the University of California system may submit applications for research conducted in the calendar year 2018. While we will consider applications for research projects pertaining to any facet of Black history, culture, and life, we are particularly interested in interdisciplinary projects in the arts, humanities, and qualitative social sciences, and quantitative projects that make strong connections to such analytical and interpretive disciplines. We encourage collaborative or cross-campus projects.
While grant amounts will vary, we anticipate that the average faculty grant will range from $5,000-$6,500 range. The grants for graduate student will range from $3,000-$6,500. Grant awards will depend on the availability of funds. Graduate students can request funds for living expense stipends (as taxable and financial aid reportable income), research travel, books, and/or other research-related expenses and must be enrolled in the three academic quarters. All funding must be used by December 1, 2018. Faculty can request funds for summer salary, GSR funding, research travel, books, and/or other research-related expenses. Faculty can also request funds for replacement costs for a partial course release with benefits included, pending approval of the department chair and/or dean at the faculty’s institution. Computers, hardware and other equipment are not considered allowable expenditures. If you are on leave of absence or have already graduated, you are no longer eligible to receive funding.
Applications are due on Monday, October 16, 2017 by 9am.
